Following the release of The Whiskey Demos in June 2013,the band decided to start working on their first full-length album. Writing continued through to 12 December 2013 when they announced they had written fifteen songs, recording commenced 21 December.  Recording continued in to early 2014 and on 22 Februray the album's title was revealed in a video update on their YouTube channel. It was also revealed that the album was about almost complete with only vocals left to record.

In early April, Steve decided he wasn't happy with how the album sounded and wanted to re-record it. The new sessions began mid-April until November 2014 when a number of lyrical changes and problems with recording equipment delayed finished the album. Recording was able to continue in January 2015 but Steve was disappointed with how the album sounded once again upon hearing the sessions back, they decided to start from scratch for a third time and Scott wanted rewrite the lyrics to some of his songs. The new recording sessions started again in March and at this time they decided to reduce the number of tracks from fifteen to ten after feeling some of the material wasn't strong enough to make it on to the final album. All of the music was recorded in a month but the vocals took longer because of some lyrical rewrites.

Recording was finally completed in early October 2015 and the debut album was released 18 October.

Track by Track:

  • “Whiskey Nights” is the first song the band ever wrote together. Steve came up with the initial concept and riff ideas one afternoon while working at a t-shirt printing company. Steve wrote the lyrics to the verses and the music and Scott wrote the lyrics to the chorus and bridge section. Scott performs the lead guitar in the bridge section with Steve playing the solo after. The song is loosely based on The Agincourt, a night club Steve and Scott used to visit regularly.
  • “Change” is a revamp of a song Steve wrote in 2008, making it the oldest song on the album. It was originally going to be used for a solo album he was working on at the time but it was never released, so he brought it to The Whiskey Knights. The song has remained the same since it was first written with the only difference being it was performed on clean sounding guitars and not the crunchier ones on the album. Steve was close to removing the song from the album as it he was never happy with how the vocals. He asked to do one last take and if he wasn't happy it would be scrapped, luckily it turned out to be the one he liked, so it remained.
  • “There's Fire In Her Eyes” is another of Steve's old songs. Written in 2009 under the working title “Special K” for another unreleased solo album, he brought it in and Scott added extra lyrics to the verses, rewrote the chorus and changed the title to what it is now.
  • “Lonely Road” was initially written for Steve's other band Echo Project under the title “Return” in 2009, it was going to appear on their album Headstrong but vocalist Tom Taylor hated it and had it scrapped. Taylor has a writing credit on “Lonely Road” because Steve kept some lyrical and melody ideas that were in Tom came up with. Steve also references Echo Project and his first band Another Life in the pre-chorus lyrics “ambient echo from another life”.
  • “Another Year”
  • “Stricken” was initially an instrumental written to be in a film of the same name created by someone the band knew. The film was never released so Steve wrote the lyrics and it was put on the album instead. Scott came up with the initial music with Steve helping to refine and finish it, also performing the first two solos whereas Scott plays the outro solo. You can find information regarding the film on IMDB and The Whiskey Knights are listed as the composers.
  • “20:20” was primarily written by Scott, he had the majority of the song completed and he brought it to Steve to help finish off.
  • “Baby, You Know It” was the final song written for the album, Steve's inspiration for the music was “Baby You Don't Want To Know” from Sum 41's Screaming Bloody Murder.
  • “The Music” is about performing live, attending shows and the crowd. The song is high energy with a heavy, headbanging bridge section. Steve wrote the music and the lyrics for the chorus and with Scott, they both wrote the lyrics to the verses. Steve's Echo Project bandmates Tom Taylor and Wez Walke provide backing vocals on the chorus.
  • “Asteroid” is a song that Scott came up with, writing the music and chorus lyrics at home later bringing it to Steve to help refine and finish. The song is considered bittersweet as the verses are positive and hopeful but the chorus is darker and implies loneliness. Steve came up with the lyrics for the verses after being inspired to write the first line while driving home from work on a sunny day wearing his sunglasses thinking it would be a nice day to go to the pub. Scott performs the rhythm with a capo on the second fret with Steve filling in with the lead and solo parts. It was well received and became a favourite amongst followers of the band.
