In November 2019, seven months after the release of And So It Begins (Again), the band put out a series of Facebook posts over a period of several days, revealing a letter day until the word "Amethyst" was spelt, officially announcing their second album Amethyst, with an initial release of late December 2019. Over the next twelve days they revealed the song names as well as showing off a new logo. Release of the album was delayed after Scott was unhappy with one of the songs and wanted to write a new song to replace it and Steve also wanted to re-record some elements of the album.
On 23 March 2020 the UK entered lockdown due to the Coronavirus pandemic delaying the album further. In order to keep their fans entertained during this time, Steve started releasing a series of videos, performing live acoustic versions of their songs, including some that would appear on Amethyst called Whiskey Wednesdays.
Recording finished 11 October with the final track listing being revealed three days later, the album was released on 6 November 2020.
Recorded, Mixed and Mastered at Arrowhead Projects UK Studios, Frimley, UK.

- “Seen” is said by Scott to be about what people experience with terrible break ups and the hostilities that can come with them. He has said Biffy Clyro were one of the musical inspirations for writing this song.
- “Could" was written by Steve about his feelings regarding being involved the music scene. The lyrics focus on someone trying for so many years to make it and seek some sort of recognition but they feel they haven't tried hard enough, they doubt their abilities and time is running out.
- “DTA" is considered to be the evil twin of the song “Whiskey Nights”, loosely based on the same nightclub that Steve and Scott used to visit on saturday nights. But this song focuses more on the toxic environment and people that could inhabit the place, turning what used to be a fun place to be to a place of back-stabbing, violence, rumours and gossip. DTA is an abbreviation of the phrase “Don't Trust Anyone”. Steve wrote the song on an acoustic before recording demos on the electric guitar.
- “Trashed” is based on being in the middle of the arguments between other people and being dragged in to the war, being fed up of being involved in other people's problems.
- “Miss Information” is also loosley based on the same people described in “DTA”, it follows the feeling of disdain for these people, the childish behaviour, the gossiping and spreading rumours.
- “The Guv'nor” is described by Scott to be about a “proper bastard of a man that thinks they are above everything and everyone but really they are no better than the shit under your shoe". He drew inspiration from The Wombats to write this song.
- “The Teenage Anthem (Thank You)” takes influence from the various bands under the pop-punk and emo banner, with Scott saying the song is about dealing with teenage angst and going through school and life being the “different kid”.
- “The Rain” is an old song that Steve wrote in 2009 for the same scrapped solo album that “There's Fire In Her Eyes” is from. It went under the title “Losing (The Rain Comes Again)” before Steve changed it to the shorter name on this album. The last section of the song was influenced by Devin Townsend's “Deadhead”, one of Steve's main influences for writing.
- “Free From You” is a song Steve wrote about breaking away from toxic people or places and feeling free and relief from the stresses of those environments. In Steve's case, it was about leaving his job at a t-shirt printing factory and the owner of it. The music of the chorus is heavily inspired by Ginger Wildheart's “Ostracide”.
- “Girl” was written by Steve for his girlfriend in 2012, initially starting as slower paced acoustic guitar and piano song, he reworked it to involve slightly crunchier guitars for the version that appears on the album. The music original ballad version can still be heard as it was used for Steve's other band, Echo Project on their song “What Kind Of Day Has It Been?” for their 2012 album Wintersongs. Fun fact: She hates this song.
- “DangerBitch” can be considered a sister song to “Baby, You Know It” from the band's first album Whiskey Nights. Using the same themes of being enticed by an attractive woman only to be led down a path of deception and despair. Steve has cited songs “My Baby Is A Headfuck” and “Suckerpunch” by The Wildhearts as the main inspirations for this song.
- “The Fine Art Of Not Giving A Shit" is about questioning if the things you do are worth it or if they are waste of time and being told when you're younger that you've got to do something with your life. The music for this song was written in 2014 by Scott but it was never used until Steve stumbled across it in the archives, writing the lyrics and reworking it to what appears on the album.
